Orthodontic Care for Every Stage of Life

Personalized orthodontic treatment for children, teens, and adults—designed to support healthy smiles, confident growth, and long-term wellness at every age.

Benefits of Early Orthodontic Treatment

Early treatment allows your orthodontist to:

  • Guide jaw growth so permanent teeth come in properly
  • Expand and optimize the width of the upper and lower arches
  • Create space for crowded teeth
  • Reduce the likelihood of permanent tooth extractions later
  • Help correct oral habits and functional imbalances, while supporting proper swallowing, speech, and chewing.
  • Improve airway and support healthier breathing

How do you know if your child may need orthodontic treatment?

For many parents, it’s not always easy to recognize the early signs. Here are some indicators that your child may benefit from an orthodontic evaluation:

  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • A small, narrow, or retrusive upper jaw (maxilla)
  • Little or no spacing between baby teeth
  • Airway concerns, snoring or mouth breathing
  • Difficulty chewing or biting, or chewing with the mouth open
  • Harmful oral habits (such as thumb sucking, tongue thrust, or improper lip posture)
  • Crowded, flared, misplaced, or blocked-out teeth
  • Jaws that pop, shift, or make sounds when opening and closing
  • Teeth that do not come together properly, or do not touch at all
  • Jaws and/or teeth that appear disproportionate to the face

If you notice any of these signs, we recommend scheduling an orthodontic evaluation.

Early treatment can help guide proper growth and development—supporting not only a beautiful smile, but one that is healthy, functional, and stable for the future.

Orthodontics for Teens

Getting Braces—Now What?

Braces today are nothing like they used to be. With modern advancements, treatment is more comfortable, easier to manage, and even more discreet.

Depending on your needs, clear aligners may also be an option, offering a convenient and nearly invisible way to straighten your teeth.

How long will I need to wear braces or aligners?

Treatment time varies from patient to patient and depends on several key factors:

Early Treatment
In some cases, early orthodontic treatment allows us to guide jaw growth and monitor development as permanent teeth come in. Not every patient requires early treatment—sometimes the best approach is to wait until all permanent teeth have erupted before starting.
The complexity of each case plays a significant role. Minor adjustments may take less time, while more comprehensive corrections naturally require a longer treatment period.
Every patient responds differently. While some may complete treatment in as little as 12 months, others may take closer to 24 months. The speed of tooth movement and overall treatment progress vary based on your body’s response.
This is one of the most important factors. Wearing your aligners as instructed, taking proper care of your braces and appliances, and maintaining good oral hygiene can significantly impact how efficiently your treatment progresses.

Straight Teeth - Your Way

We offer a variety of orthodontic options designed to fit your lifestyle and treatment needs. Some of the most common include:

    • Clear (ceramic) braces
    • Traditional metal braces
    • Expanders
    • Clear aligners

Orthodontic treatment is an important part of growing up for many patients, and today’s options make it easier than ever to look and feel your best throughout the process.

Orthodontics for Adults

Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists reports that 1 in 5 orthodontic patients today is over the age of 21. Many adults choose treatment not only to improve their smile, but also to support their overall oral health and long-term function. With modern, more discreet options, orthodontic care can fit seamlessly into your lifestyle.

Why adults consider orthodontic treatment:

  • A bad bite (malocclusion), causing teeth to fit together improperly
  • Crowded or spaced teeth, which may contribute to tooth decay or gum disease
  • Jaw discomfort, pain, or pressure related to misalignment
  • A desire for a healthier mouth and a more confident smile

Airway and comprehensive care

Airway health can also play an important role in adult orthodontic treatment. Dr. Atique works collaboratively with ENTs (otolaryngologists), pulmonologists, sleep medicine physicians, maxillofacial surgeons, orofacial myofunctional therapists, chiropractors, and physical therapists.

This interdisciplinary approach allows orthodontics to be part of a broader treatment plan for conditions such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS).

Treatment options for adults

For many adults, the idea of traditional metal braces can feel discouraging. The good news is that modern orthodontics offers a range of discreet, comfortable, and highly customized treatment options designed to fit your lifestyle.

Your treatment is tailored to your specific needs and goals, with options that include:

  • Invisalign® clear aligners
  • Clear (ceramic) braces
  • Self-ligating braces
  • Traditional metal braces
  • MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion) or MSE (Maxillary Skeletal Expander) for skeletal expansion when indicated

How Adult Orthodontics Differs from Treatment for Children and Teens

Orthognathic (jaw) surgery

Orthodontic treatment in children and teens often takes advantage of ongoing jaw growth to guide development. In adults, jaw growth is complete, which may limit certain treatment options and, in some cases, require orthognathic surgery to properly align the jaws.

Gum and bone health (periodontal considerations)

Adults are more likely to experience gum recession or bone loss due to gingivitis or advanced periodontal disease. These conditions must be carefully managed during orthodontic treatment. Properly aligned teeth can help improve oral hygiene and reduce the risk of future periodontal problems.

Before
After

Anterior crowding greater than 3 mm can increase the risk of chronic inflammation and periodontal issues in adulthood. Proper alignment of the teeth can serve as a preventive measure to help reduce these risks and support long-term oral health.

Before
After

Gum recession improved following alignment of the teeth. Orthodontic tooth movement can support healthier gingival conditions. Dental crowding and malocclusion may contribute to periodontal disease.

Worn or missing teeth

Over time, teeth can become worn, chipped, or fractured, leading to a loss of vertical height and changes in tooth position. This loss of vertical dimension may also contribute to airway-related issues. Missing teeth can cause adjacent teeth to shift or tip, resulting in malocclusion and increasing the risk of gingivitis and other periodontal conditions. Orthodontic treatment can help restore proper alignment and support long-term oral health.

Crooked teeth are at a higher risk of chipping/fracturing.

Incomplete orthodontic treatment as a teen

Many adults began orthodontic treatment as children or teens but did not complete it. As a result, teeth may have shifted or underlying issues remained uncorrected. As adults, many choose to resume and complete treatment to achieve the healthy, functional, and confident smile they’ve always wanted—and deserve.

We recognize that adults and children have different needs, requiring individualized attention and care. Our commitment is to work closely with you to ensure you receive the most appropriate treatment, delivered with the highest level of respect, understanding, and personalized care.

Why should you consider orthodontic treatment?

Healthy alignment supports long-term oral health
Properly aligned teeth are easier to keep clean, making daily brushing and flossing more effective and helping reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease.
Orthodontic treatment can enhance your smile and boost self-confidence—giving you the freedom to smile, speak, and engage without hesitation.
The way your teeth and jaws fit together can impact more than just your smile. Orthodontic treatment may help support proper function, nasal breathing, and airway health as part of a comprehensive approach.
When orthodontic issues are left untreated, they can progress and lead to more complex health concerns and increased treatment needs in the future.
